After another weird year many of of us are raring to go out this summer! I’m Susie, from Wiki Places For Kids, and I have put the work into finding the best days out with dad for you! I tried to keep it to less than 10, but it wasn’t happening! There are too many amazing places to go! So here it is, the top 10 days out with dads Summer 2021!
You may be wondering “What is Wiki Places For Kids!”…? On maternity leave with baby number 2 in 2016, I created Wikiplacesforkids.com – a trip advisor for parents looking for things to do where everything has been recommended by actual parents who have actually been with actual kids! I wanted to create a one stop shop for parents to find places to take children of all ages with reviews from parents who had been there. The reviews are completely honest – written by parents, for parents!
Following the dreaded C word popping up last year, we updated the site to show you what safety measures are in place at different places to visit. So many places have different rules! And as busy parents, we don’t always have time to search for them! So we took the pressure off. The only thing you need to do after choosing which of these places for dads and kids is right for you – and then book it in!
Places For Days Out With Dad Summer 2021!
We know that dads days out need to be engaging for both dads and the kids. We have made this list of top places for you to get hands on with the kids – having fun together at any of these fantastic places, will give the kids memories that will last a lifetime.
Science Museum – London
Some of my favourite memories as a kid on days out with my dad, were the museums we visited. And we know that dads love to get hands on when it comes to play and days out… so the Science Museum is great for days out with dad! One of the most interactive and inspiring days out for little and big minds. This free museum is definitely one for the bucket list. Learn about the planet, execute experiments, discover the Amazon, the beginnings of transportation, discover stars…. It’s tremendous. Hopefully this day out will inspire you to do some cool experiments with your kids on days you’re staying home this summer. Dadvengers podcast recently had SUPER science dad, The Dad Lab, on who talks about why science with the kids is great – a must listen in my opinion!
Pixel bunker
While writing this post I asked my husband where he thought was a great day out for dads and kids… and this is his top pick for great days out with dad in summer 2021!
For dads who like to get involved in games with the kids – this is a must visit! This retro arcade is super cool! The chance to relive your childhood playing games like Pac-Man, Tron, Street fighter 2 on old school arcade machines – and it is great for introducing the kids to them too. They have 3 sessions a day Friday to Sunday and all you pay is one admission fee!! Just try not to get too competitive with the kids on this fun-filled day out!
Mr Mulligans
Golf dads… this ones for you! The indoor virtual golfing experience means that rain or shine you will have an awesome day out and get in a fun round of golf! With themes adventures – Underwater / Enchanted forest. This brilliant day out with dad will have you all enjoying the fun of golf together. It could even be a great way to introduce the kids to your favourite sport!
National Space Centre – Leicester
Wow! This is an amazing place where you can come face to face with astronauts, see a rocket up close, explore a planetarium, take a journey though our solar system and take good look down on the view of earth from space… and so much more! Kids and dads of all ages will love exploring space together – making brilliant memories and learning so much at the same time. This space centre is a must visit for dads and kids – I wish I could have gone with my dad when I was young, we’d have both loved it!
Natural History Museum – Tring
Another wonderful educational and fun day out for dads to take the kids this summer is this brilliant (and free) museum, this one slightly different to its sister site in London. Is packed to the rafters with taxidermy of nearly every specie of animal recorded! It’s an incredible experience for both dads and children to come face to face with an anaconda, lion, polar bear, zebra, giraffe and even something really big and prehistoric looking!!
Diggerland
With four locations across the UK this is one of our favourite theme parks. Perfectly suited to the little ones, all the rides are made from actual machinery! The children (and yes, you can get involved too dad!) can drive and dig with a real life JCB and digger, plus take a spin on the ultimate ride – Spin dizzy! Make sure you check the height restrictions before booking.
Forestry England
I don’t know about you, but I know my kids love climbing trees and exploring woodland! Outdoor play with kids is so important for kids and dads alike, and these wonderful forests are fast becoming ultimate destinations. Not only are they stunning, beautifully maintained with acres of interesting walks, park land and adventure playgrounds sprawling the forest. They are also host in many cases to Go Ape who also offer bouncy nets and all terrain segways! So if you’re looking for somewhere with loads of space for you and the kids to explore, the forest is a brilliant day out no matter the age of the kids – or your budget.
Lego Discovery Centre
Lego is a great experience for dads to share with kids! And this is such a fun day out for Lego lovers… this entirely indoor venue is a the ultimate indoor Lego playground – and a great option for those rainy days where dads wants to take the kids! It is such a feast for the eyes. With a huge play area and rides, made from LEGO, a 4D cinema and lots to explore including an interactive Lego city ‘Miniland’ where you can get up close to iconic building, control trains, football and cricket matches. Great fun!!
Bear Grylls Adventure
OK dads… we know some of you will think you’d rival Bear Grylls with your skills. So this is the ultimate place to test your strength and skills at this amazing location where you can practice archery, snorkelling, rock climbing, high ropes and iFLY! Plus the chance to beat your friends and family (and kids!!) on the assault course and the escape rooms!
This is a great day out for dads and kids this summer – but it is for over 8’s only so you need to keep that in mind!
Aqua Parcs
An incredible inflatable water park experience in the heart of Willen Lake! With slides, swings and huge boulders to jump between this is a water based wipe out style course. So much fun… the perfect place to bring out your inner child!!!
But – you do need to ensure that your kids are strong swimmers to be there – and have enough stamina to make it through the day, it can really take it out of you!
Cereal Killer Cafe
For something completely different but awesome for a treat… take the kids to the Cereal Killer Cafe! The home of the worlds largest collection of cereal – imagine the faces your kids will make when they walk into this cafe and see a wall full of cereal! We all love cereal – dads and kids are not alone there! And at this brilliant cafe, you will get a breakfast, pop tart or dessert treat like no other! One for the bucket list!!
