Mama Shelter Kidzcation Hotel Review – A Great Little Secret In The Heart Of London

3 Mins read

With meet ups and events planned for 2021 and beyond here at Dadvengers we are constantly looking for locations that will suit our needs. So when the opportunity to do a Mama Shelter Kidzcation Hotel review came up, we jumped at the chance. We took advantage of their Kidzcation deal, which includes

  • A room for two adults plus a second interconnecting room for the kids at half price.
  • free breakfast for kids under 12
  • Kids room set up with treats on arrival including MAMA’s kids films.

But what was our stay like? What was the food like? Were the staff nice? All will be revealed in this Mama Shelter Hotel review.

Where is MAMA Shelter located?

Mama Shelter hotel is situated on the outskirts of the very trendy borough of Shoreditch in East London. Known for its bars, restaurants and clubs, the area can be quite lively. Fortunately Mama’s sit just far enough away to benefit from more peace and quiet, but close enough to walk to the hustle and bustle in 15mins if thats what you’re looking for. As with most of London, transport links are fairly easy. However if you’re wanting a tube station on your door step you may be disappointed with having to use the Rail or bus routes instead.

Once you arrive you are greeted with a warm homely establishment with some lovely quirky touches. The whole of the ground floor is open plan and merges beautifully from reception, to restaurant, to bar, kitchen and back. That said, there are lots of little nooks and crannies which enable you to be as private or as public as you feel. A welcoming space for working, eating, socialising or just sitting and reading a book it’s definitely one of our favourite features of the shelter.

MAMA’s Rooms

As part of the Kidzcation deal you get a double room for the adults and a twin room for the kids. Neither is particularly large, but they more than suffice for a family weekend away. What’s done really well is space saving. Everything in the rooms fits into place perfectly. It’s like a specially crafted jigsaw puzzle of furniture and appliances that complement each other beautifully. It’s both bedroom and living room all rolled into one. Neither room has a bath but are you really gonna have time to get the candles out and relax with the kids asking what are we doing now?

What’s the food like at MAMA Shelter Hotel?

In a word lovely! We sampled both breakfast and dinner and on both occasions we had no complaints from adults or children. The selection on both the breakfast and dinner menus isn’t huge but it does cater for all dietary requirements and portion sizes are good.

If you’re looking for drinks there are 2 bars. The Main bar and the Garden bar. Both are well stocked and have signature cocktails, cocktails to share, and a small selection of craft beers. You definitely won’t go thirsty and

Does Mama cater for your needs?

I can’t praise the staff and service enough. From check-in to check-out everyone was so helpful and friendly. At meal times we were seated promptly and given advice on the menus.

When we went for a rainy afternoon walk we were supplied umbrellas to keep us dry. These things may seem trivial but I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels over the years and slowly as competition increases small things like this are over looked. Especially at some of the bigger chains who’s prices are often higher than Mama Shelter. For me places like this with a personal touch win every time.

MAMA Shelter Kidzcation Hotel Review Verdict

We had a terrific stay MAMA Shelter and would definitely go again. Whether you live in the UK or are traveling from abroad its got a reassuring home from home feel. The value for money on the Kidzcation deal is great! You will be hard pushed to find the quality or service for the same price in London. The only thing to watch out for are the Mama Shelter gifts and accessories which are on display in the reception area. They are desirable and enticing but the price may not be. Hopefully you have enough restraint to resist those retail urges. Apart from that we are all thumbs up! Dad’s win yourself some brownie points while spending some quality time with the family.
