Dadvengers Podcast Episode 25 – Troy Deeney
It’s the Dadvengers Podcast Episode 25 – Troy Deeney. This week’s guest is a straight talker! He’s a footballer, dad of 4 and activist changing how black history is taught in schools. Troy’s episode is a must listen for all parents!
Troy witnessed domestic abuse as a child, which he also tried to protect him mum from. He talks about helping support his family from a young age. He worked to help his mum financially from 11 years old and regularly got into trouble for leaving early to pick up his brother and sister from school. These experiences shaped him as he grew into an adult and became a parent.
Troy never thought he would need therapy. But after getting into trouble with the police, he realised he needed to talk about, and deal with, his past traumas. So he sought therapy. Troy’s a big believer in the importance of finding the right therapist and not giving up if the first one doesn’t work out. Troy tells us how therapy has helped him become a better parent and how he uses his experiences to help others.
Troy’s also using his platform to talk about the lack of black history being taught to our kids, and how and why this needs to change. He also made a brilliant documentary called “Troy Deeney – Where’s My History”, which is referenced a few times during this episode, and we recommend you watch that too. .
Troy is a great example of a Dadvenger and we’re so pleased he shared his story with us! 💙
